Unity Street Chambers - Bristol: A leading set of Barristers serving the South West and beyond

As a progressive and ambitious set of Chambers we are always looking at building for the future.

We take pupillage seriously and offers of pupillage are made with a view to tenancy.

We are pleased to announce that we are offering a 12-month general common law pupillage to commence in October 2020.

Pupillage attracts a grant of £8,161 paid in monthly instalments during the first six months of pupillage and guaranteed minimum earnings of £8,161 during the second six months. We have found that pupils in recent years have earned well in excess of this figure.

All applications should be made by way of CV and covering letter and should be addressed to The Pupillage Secretary and emailed to

Chambers will accept applications from 7thJanuary 2020 and applications must be received by 4pm on 7th February 2020. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Successful candidates will be invited to interview between February – May 2020.

Unity Street Chambers offers a limited number of 3-day mini-pupillages throughout the year to talented applicants who must be at least at undergraduate level. Mini-pupils will have the opportunity to shadow members of Chambers in court and during conferences. There may also be an opportunity to read papers and undertake written work.

Unfortunately, due to the level of demand we are unable to extend the offer of placements to secondary school pupils.

Applications are assessed by academic ability, demonstration of the skills required to succeed as a barrister and enthusiasm for potential practice in Bristol. Applications are considered quarterly and the following deadlines apply:

30 September for mini-pupillages offered in January- March of the following year
31 December for mini-pupillages offered in April-June of the following year
31 March for mini-pupillages offered in July-September
